If you’ve stayed at Noughts & Crosses Farm Stay, there’s a good chance you’ve already met Milly.

You may not have seen her at first, but you’ve certainly heard her.

Milly is our miniature dachshund and self-appointed Chief of Security. While Asher, our friendly border collie, is usually busy welcoming guests and making new friends, Milly has a very different view of the world.

Someone has to keep an eye on things.

And Milly takes that responsibility seriously.

Every Arrival Is Officially Announced

Guests often arrive expecting peaceful paddocks, beautiful sunsets and a relaxing farm-stay experience.

What they don’t expect is a very small dog providing a full security briefing from somewhere nearby.

Every vehicle receives a bark upon arrival.

Every unusual noise is investigated.

Every delivery driver is alerted.

Milly believes it is her duty to ensure everyone knows exactly what is happening on the property.

Whether that duty was assigned to her or not remains unclear.

Small Dog. Big Opinions.

At first glance, Milly might seem like the quiet one.

She isn’t.

She has strong views on farm management, visitor arrivals, bird activity, and occasionally the weather; storms can not be trusted, and rain is an offer to pee inside.

Her size has never prevented her from believing she is fully capable of managing situations much larger than herself.

Thankfully, most of those situations turn out to be leaves, shadows, or particularly suspicious chickens.

Life on a Farm Stay

One of the things guests love most about staying at Noughts & Crosses is meeting the animals that make this place feel like home.

Every animal has their own personality.

Asher is the welcoming committee.

Oreo the barn cat is convinced he owns the place.

Xena remains largely unimpressed by everyone.

And Milly keeps watch over it all.

They aren’t just animals that live here.

They’re part of the story of the property.
